TOURNAMENTS POLICY

This policy provides guidelines for tournaments and club challenges run by LWV Pickleball Club volunteers led by the Tournaments Director.

  1. DECISIONS. The Tournaments Director aims to provide a balanced, interesting, and fun event. The Club has established a Tournaments Committee comprising experienced Club members to support the Tournaments Director and arbitrate any disagreements.
  2. SKILL LEVEL. Players should register for play events according to their skill level in the LWV Pickleball system. A player without a skill level (such as non-members in the Village Games) should sign up for their known skill level or contact the Tournaments Director. If the skill level is unknown, unproven, or disputed, the Tournaments Director will ask the player to be assessed by a 4.0+ senior member of the Club, and the Tournaments Director’s decision is final. Contact the Tournaments Director or email nadinelevier@gmail.com to change your skill level.
  3. PHYSICAL EXPECTATIONS. Demand to participate in club challenges is high. Only register if you are sure you can make the date and that you are physically able to play the advertised number of games.
  4. CANCELLATIONS. If you need to cancel, cancel early. Last minute cancellations can cause havoc with the structure of the expected event.
  5. FORFEITS. (i) A player who does not actively check in at the courts at least 15 minutes ahead of the announced start time is considered a no-show and will be substituted. (ii) A player who no-shows or leaves an event early without prior approval of the Tournaments Director will forfeit the right to register for the next two Club challenges.
  6. SUBSTITUTES. Substitutes for no-shows, withdrawals, and injuries will be at the discretion of the Tournaments Director and is at the same skill level. If no substitute is available, the partner is also withdrawn.
  7. LINE CALLS.  The call belongs to the side receiving the ball. Only call a ball “out” if there is clearly a space between the line and the ball as it hits the ground. If the side can’t agree, the ball is considered “in”. If in doubt, show good sportsmanship - these are friendly games here.
  8. SPECTATORS. Spectators are welcome at all events and asked to refrain from commenting on line calls or interfering with the volunteers running the brackets.
  9. ISSUES. Any issue should be raised directly with the volunteer running the bracket, the Tournaments Director, or any Board member present at the event.
